DID YOU KNOW?

"Motherhouse" is a real place: Located in the 10000 block of Westmoreland Street in the Westlake neighborhood of Los Angeles, the Normandy Apartment Building was constructed to resemble a near life-size Norman castle. Four L.A. street gangs via for control of this stretch of turf. And yet, remarkably, no gang graffiti can been seen desecrating the walls of this fabulous old structure.

I'm often asked if my characters are based on real people? The answer is "NO"... mostly. Only one story in Body Count is based on someone from my past. I'll let you, the reader, decide which one.

Fremont and Lougie are series characters. They first appear in Body Count in the title story, "Fremont & Lougie". The adventure continues in "Making It With Gammy" as found in the book anthology LAndmarked for Murder, where Fremont sets off on his own to seek the land of opportunity in Los Angeles. Lougie later returns in Body Count in the fast-paced thriller "Sweaty Money". Are there more adventures planned for this infamous duo?... we'll see.

The bridge, as featured in the story "The Bridge", is located in my hometown of Crescent Springs, Kentucky. This one-lane, wooden structure spans the Southern Railroad tracks. All traffic, in and out of town, had to cross the bridge. My mother's relentless admonishment was: "Don't go near the bridge."  In my young mind, it conjured up visions of evil trolls that surely live beneath. In reality, she simply didn't want me hanging out with the kids who used the bridge as a place to drink and smoke... "bad bridge!"
